The Ladies of Madonna Lily

Raluca and Diana created Madonna Lily using the techniques and earthy scents from their native Romania front of mind. Diana’s grandmother always had a handmade salve or oil on hand to tend to everything from a headache to a bad hair day. When both women moved to Massachusetts from Romania, they noticed no one seemed to have this same resource. They began re-creating Diana’s grandmother’s products as a side hustle and quickly gained loyal customers. Some years later they found themselves in NOLA and are quite happy growing the business at outdoor markets and through word of mouth. They both bartend on the side to fill the gaps but are committed to creating high quality products with zero chemicals and as little environmental impact as possible. For example, their lotion bars do not contain water-hence the bar. Why? Because when you add water (most traditional liquid lotions) you then need to add preservatives. Without water, the result is a luxurious, more nutrient rich salve that melts upon contact with your body heat. It feels and smells AMAZING. The jasmine sage scent is a favorite. I keep finding reasons to put more on! The ginger healing oil is another great product. It has a sweet, subtle aroma and works great for a scalp massage and/or as hair oil. I rubbed it on my lower back and that felt great too! Lastly, don’t miss the natural body glitters to kick up your festival flare!

The Madonna Lily founders are committed to product packaging that is as sustainable as possible. They are keenly aware of how much waste most beauty products create so they opt for glass jars, reusable tin boxes and paper bags at every possible turn. To boot, all the products are hand made in NOLA using only natural ingredients. There is truly a palpable desire within Diana and Raluca to better their community and the planet simultaneously. How can we not get on board with that?! : ) Please check them out!

Here’s how we’d play it Carnival style: Douse yourself in a no guilt body shimmer for those parades/parties where you really want to shine!
